The White Rock Residence explores how a family home can connect everyday life with the changing atmosphere of the West Coast landscape. Set into a sloping site in South Surrey, the house unfolds across three levels, linking interior living spaces with sheltered decks, elevated terraces and a lower-level swimming pool. These layered thresholds balance openness and privacy, creating places for gathering, retreat and outdoor occupation.

Warm wood-toned surfaces, dark cladding and generous glazing establish a restrained material palette. Deep overhangs and covered outdoor spaces mediate between the home and the coastal climate, while shifting daylight, rain and reflections bring movement to its architectural edges. A secondary suite accommodates an additional household within the overall composition. The project expresses BHZA’s interest in architecture shaped by place and daily experience—where landscape, material and inhabitation develop a richer relationship over time.
