FE WINERY

A Place Shaped by Time, Land, and Craft

Set within the agricultural landscape of British Columbia, FE Winery is envisioned as more than a destination for wine tasting—it is a place where architecture, agriculture, and community converge. The project draws inspiration from the rhythms of vineyard cultivation, the enduring character of the Fraser Valley, and the timeless relationship between people and the land.

The architecture is composed of a series of interconnected timber structures that emerge naturally from the landscape. Expressed through exposed Douglas Fir glulam frames, finely crafted wood detailing, and expansive glazing, the buildings create a contemporary interpretation of the agricultural vernacular of British Columbia. Rather than competing with the surrounding vineyards, the architecture frames and amplifies the experience of the site.

At the heart of the winery, visitors move through a sequence of spaces that celebrate the journey of wine—from production and craftsmanship to tasting, gathering, and reflection. Large sheltered terraces blur the boundary between inside and outside, offering panoramic views across the vineyards while providing spaces for social connection throughout the seasons.

Natural materials define the experience. Warm timber structures, textured mineral finishes, and carefully filtered daylight create an atmosphere that is both refined and grounded. Light is treated as a building material, shaping spaces throughout the day and revealing the changing character of the landscape over time.

The winery is planned as a phased development that balances hospitality, production, and environmental stewardship. Each component—from the winery and tasting room to the estate club and outdoor gathering spaces—is designed to support the long-term evolution of the estate while maintaining a strong connection to its agricultural roots.

FE Winery embodies BHZA’s belief that architecture should emerge from the intrinsic nature of a place. It is an architecture of restraint, material honesty, and lasting relevance—creating memorable experiences that connect people with nature, culture, and the craft of winemaking.
